So he recited to him:

I swear by your life, that Abū Mālik is not weak;
And does not act as an archenemy or is not stubborn in talking, when admonished by a wise man;
On the contrary, he is witty & noble in nature gentleman, whom others will remember him to be good;
If you were to be his master, you will find him in complete obedience, and will perform sufficiently whatever you ask him to do.

He (the narrator) said: Then Moḥammed bin ʿAlī عليهما السلام placed his hand upon the shoulder of Zayd, and said: This is attributed to you, oh Abā al-Ḥussain.1

From al-Ṣādiq Jaʿfar bin Moḥammed عليهما السلام, who said: If the dissolute announces his debauchery, then there is no sacrosanctity for him, nor is there any [prohibition on] backbiting.

1. Shaykh Hādi al-Najafi says the chain is reliable. [Mawsūʿat al-Aḥādīth ahl al-Bayt, Volume 8, Page 465]; Sayed al-Khomeini has said it has a good chain [al-Mukāsib al-Muḥarama, Volume 1, Page 276], and Muḥaqiq al-Baḥrāni has graded it authentic [al-Ḥadā’iq al-Nādhirah, Volume 18, Page 166]. Others, like Sayid al-Khū’i have graded the chain as weak – despite claiming the content being sound.
The main differences in gradings come from Aḥmed bin Hārūn, the shaykh of al-Ṣadūq, being in the chain. Despite al-Ṣadūq doing tarādhi upon him, some do not believe his reliability is established.

1. One variation worship Him aspiring for His reward. This worship is that of a miser, and that is avaricious.
2. Others worship out of fear of the Fire. This worship is that of a slave, and that is dread.
3. However, I worship him out of love for Him, Mighty and Majestic. This worship is that of nobility, and that is security – based upon His, Mighty and Majestic, saying: and they, from the terror of that Day, will be safe.1 – and His, Mighty and Majestic, saying – Say, ‘If you should love Allāh, then follow me, [so] Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins.’2 Therefore, whoever loves Allāh, Allāh will love him; and whoever Allāh, Mighty and Majestic, loves, he will be from the secure ones.

For each letter he had written [on it], Allāh, Blessed and High, will give him a city greater in vastness than this world by seven fold. There will not be an hour where a believer sits with a scholar, unless his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, calls out: ‘You have sat with My beloved. By My Might and Majesty, I will make you reside with him in Paradise, without concern.
