It was narrated to us by al-Ḥussain bin Ibrāhīm bin Nātānah رحمه الله, who said – it was narrated to us by ʿAlī bin Ibrāhīm, from his father, from Moḥammed bin Abī ʿUmayr, from ʿAbd Allāh bin al-Fadhl al-Hāshimi, from al-Ṣādiq Jaʿfar bin Moḥammed, from his father, from his forefathers عليهم السلام, who said:1

The Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وآله said: Glad tidings to the one whose life is long and his deeds are good; for his return is good if his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, is pleased with him. Woe upon the one whose life is long and deeds are vile; for his return is vile if his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, is displeased with him.

حدثنا الحسين بن إبراهيم بن ناتانه ( رحمه الله ) ، قال : حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم ، عن أبيه ، عن محمد بن أبي عمير ، عن عبد الله بن الفضل الهاشمي ، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد ، عن أبيه ، عن آبائه ( عليهم السلام ) ، قال : قال رسول الله ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) : طوبى لمن طال عمره وحسن عمله فحسن منقلبه إذ رضي عنه ربه عز وجل ، وويل لمن طال عمره وساء عمله ، فساء منقلبه إذ سخط عليه ربه عز وجل .
