It was narrated to us by Moḥammed bin Aḥmed al-Sināni al-Mukattab, who said – it was narrated to us by Moḥammed bin Hārūn al-Ṣūfi, who said – it was narrated to us by ʿUbayd Allāh bin Mūsa al-Ḥabbāl al-Ṭabbari, who said – it was narrated to us by Moḥammed bin al-Ḥussain al-Khashāb, who said – it was narrated to us by Moḥammed bin Maḥaṣan, from Yūnis bin Ṭibyān, who said:

al-Ṣādiq Jaʿfar bin Moḥammed عليهما السلام said: Indeed, people worship Allāh, Mighty and Majestic, upon three variations.
1. One variation worship Him aspiring for His reward. This worship is that of a miser, and that is avaricious.
2. Others worship out of fear of the Fire. This worship is that of a slave, and that is dread.
3. However, I worship him out of love for Him, Mighty and Majestic. This worship is that of nobility, and that is security – based upon His, Mighty and Majestic, saying: and they, from the terror of that Day, will be safe.1 – and His, Mighty and Majestic, saying – Say, ‘If you should love Allāh, then follow me, [so] Allāh will love you and forgive you your sins.’2 Therefore, whoever loves Allāh, Allāh will love him; and whoever Allāh, Mighty and Majestic, loves, he will be from the secure ones.
