It was narrated to us by al-Ḥassan bin ʿAbd Allāh bin Saʿīd, who said – it was narrated to us by ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz bin Yaḥya, who said – it was narrated to us by al-‘Ashʿath bin Moḥammed al-Dhabi, who said – it was narrated to me by Shuʿayb bin ʿUmar, from his father, from Jābir al-Juʿafi, who said:

I entered upon Abī Jaʿfar Moḥammed bin ʿAlī عليهما السلام, and with him was his brother Zayd عليه السلام. Maʿrūf bin Kharbūdh al-Makki came in, and Abū Jaʿfar عليه السلام said: Oh Maʿrūf, recite some poetry from the unique ones you have.
So he recited to him:

I swear by your life, that Abū Mālik is not weak;
And does not act as an archenemy or is not stubborn in talking, when admonished by a wise man;
On the contrary, he is witty & noble in nature gentleman, whom others will remember him to be good;
If you were to be his master, you will find him in complete obedience, and will perform sufficiently whatever you ask him to do.

He (the narrator) said: Then Moḥammed bin ʿAlī عليهما السلام placed his hand upon the shoulder of Zayd, and said: This is attributed to you, oh Abā al-Ḥussain.1

1. In al-Khiṣāl, it is Abā al-Ḥassan.
